The emergency department in Letterkenny University Hospital is extremely busy today with a significant number of patients waiting for admission.
According to Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation figures there are 29 patients waiting for a bed in the hospital.
A statement from the Saolta Hospital Group says the full capacity protocol has been implemented and efforts are being made to identify patients appropriate for discharge.
Non urgent elective procedures have also been deferred today.
People are advised to attend the Emergency Department only in the case of real emergencies and they should contact their GP or GP Out-of-Hours service in the first instance.
In Sligo there are just three patients waiting for a hospital bed according to today’s trolley watch report.
There are 410 people on trolleys across the country.
