Minister launches new social housing units in Kinlough

The Minister for Housing has officially opened six new social housing units in north Leitrim today.

Minister Simon Coveney was in Kinlough this morning as part of a tour of the country where he is meeting local authorities to assess local housing needs.

Local Councillors and oireachtas members are meeting with Simon Coveney in Leitrim today where the Minister is presently meeting with Council officials in Carrick-on-Shannon.

He was in Kinlough in north Leitrim earlier where he officially opened 6 of 13 new social houses bought by Leitrim County Council recently.

He met with grassroots members of the Fine Gael party in Sligo last night after officially launching the new East Sligo and Cranmore Regeneration Plan.

It’s understood water charges again came up at the meeting with local party members.

It’s after the Minister told Ocean FM News last night that the money that the 61% of people have already paid in water charges has already been spent.

He says it’s been invested in water infrastructure and seems reluctant to issue refunds to those who have paid.

He says that and pursuing those who haven’t paid is now an issue that the the Oireachtas Committee set up to review this weeks report on Domestic Water usage will have to find a solution to:
