EJ’s Sligo All-Stars claimed their sixth straight victory with a hard-fought defeat of northwest rivals LYIT at the Letterkenny college on Saturday afternoon.
The All-Stars found themselves under the cosh in the opening half, and trailed by nine points at one stage, despite three early baskets for Mayo footballer star Aidan O’Shea.
But Shane O’Meara’s side reduced the gap to five by the break, 29-24, and a storming start to the third quarter took them into a lead they were never to relinquish.
They led by 44-36 at the end of the third quarter, and also edged the final quarter to claim a 62-53 victory and their fifth league win in eight games so far this season.
Division One Player of the Month Kaylim Noel top-scored for the All-Stars with 15 points, while Oisin O’Reilly and Philip Hamilton hit 11 points each.
Kevin Stanley hit 14 points for LYIT, while Zak Balogun claimed ten and Mark Cannon landed eight.
