A Sinn Fein councillor believes the only way Fintra Bridge in Donegal can be upgraded is if Transport Infrastructure Ireland provide funding.
Councillor Noel Jordan raised the issue at a meeting of Donegal Municipal District this week in which he called for the R263 between Killybegs and Clencolmcille to be upgraded.
He wants to see the road become a national secondary route which would open it up to national funding.
Councillor Jordan told the meeting that with Slieve League and the new stone map of Ireland along the route it was imperative that funding be secured to develop a badly needed new bridge at Fintra.
Speaking to Ocean FM he said Donegal county council cannot afford to do the work on it’s own.
