Donegal TD believes families of missing persons would benefit from new bill



A Donegal TD says that families like the family of Mary Boyle would benefit from a new bill which Sinn Fein hopes to have passed in the New Year.

Sinn Fein TD Pearse Doherty has tabled a new ‘Missing Persons’ bill in the Dail this month.

Between seven and eight thousand people go missing in Ireland every year.

Deputy Doherty says this bill would give families the right to a ‘presumption of death order’ through the Circuit Court.

It would also allow people who go missing to administer their affairs like bank and insurance details.

He says it would be some help to families like Mary Boyle’s who went missing in Donegal in 1977 and is presumed dead:
