Sligo County Council have received over 12 million euro in funding for housing and transport works to be started in 2017.
The department of the environment have allocated just under 3 million euro for the building of 22 social houses at Fr. O’Flanagan terrace.
The first housing contract in seven years was signed by the council this morning and work is expected to begin next year.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland have also allocated 9.6 million euro for works on the N4, N16 and the N15 at Hughes’s bridge.
Work will begin on the N15 in 2017 with document preparation expected on the N4 and N16 ahead of construction work in 2018
Cathaoirleach of the council, Fine Gael councillor Hubert Keaney says it’s a great vote of confidence in Sligo.

A Leitrim councillor has voiced his disappointment that more progress has not been made on the realignment of the N16 Sligo to Blacklion road on the County Sligo side.
Fine Gael Councillor Sean McDermott was speaking after it was announced that traffic light restrictions at road works near Glenfarne will be removeed for the Christmas period.
Cllr McDermott points out that much work has been done on the N16 in Leitrim but he said similar improvements and progress have not taken place in County Sligo or on the N4 from Belcoo to Enniskillen.
