There have been calls to increase safety on the main road in Strandhill village.
Independent councillor Declan Bree raised the motion of a new footpath on the main Strandhill road at the December meeting of Sligo Municipal District.
He said with the increase of pedestrian numbers in the area due to the newly developed Killaspugbrone Loop and Queen Meave’s walking trail a footpath is needed between the rugby club and the Strandhill village roundabout.
He added that there is an increased danger for pedestrians walking the road at night.
Speaking to Ocean FM councillor Bree said he is hoping to see progress in the new year.
