A Leitrim Councillor is calling for the allocation of local roads funding to be brought forward.
Fianna Fail Councillor Paddy O’Rourke says the National Transport Authority should announce the funding to Councils before the end of each year in line with the Budgets.
At the moment the NTA, formerly the National Road Authority (NRA) assigns the amount local authorities will get for local and regional roads at the end of January.
However, Councillor O’Rourke says this means every year Councils are left wondering how much money they have and they cannot plan properly.
It also means a lot of the work is left until much later in the year to be carried out instead of during the more appropriate spring and summer months:
