A Donegal TD says farmers in the north west could benefit from the money generated if the cap on Single Farm Payments was reduced.
Charlie McConologue says in the programme of Government, they promised to reduced the cap on basic payments from €150,000 down to €100,000.
Very few farmers in this region would get single farm payment of that amount but if those payments were capped for those who do in other parts of Europe farmers here could benefit.
