A Donegal road safety campaigner says publicans should provide the transport to bring their customers home from pubs.
Mary Clinton of A-CEART was speaking in support of proposals by Transport Minister Shane Ross calling for an immediate ban for drivers convicted of drunken driving, even those found guilty of a first offence.
In some parts of the rural North West, public transport and taxis are not available.
But Mary Clinton tells Ocean FM it’s selfishness for people who have taken alcohol to drive as they are putting their own pleasure ahead of the safety of others.
She insists it’s publicans who are making the money and who are concerned about keeping their businesses open.
