Councillor hits out at planning department over ESB fence in Ballyshannon



A Fine Gael Councillor in Donegal has hit out at the planning department of the Council over ongoing concerns about the a fence along the Erne river in Ballyshannon.

Barry O’Neill claims the decision to grant permission was incompetent and there are safety concerns.

He told a meeting of the Donegal Municipal District this week, that he was in possession of two letters from senior staff members of the Council which he claims proves planning permission should not have been granted to ESB.

In the absence of a senior planner at yesterday’s meeting the area manager and Director of Service with Donegal County Council Garry Martin told the meeting that to his knowledge all conditions had been met and the fence was erected to provide safety for those working at the ESB power station in the town.
