Protest against the closure of Sligo RVL planned for Wednesday



A protest against the closure of the District Veterinary laboratory in Sligo is to be held on Wednesday.

The RVL which is based in Doonally is one of three of the 6 around the country under threat of closure following a recent review.

It recommended that Athlone, Cork and Celbridge be kept open.

Farmers are set to outline their opposition to the move at the gathering outside the lab between 12:30pm and 2pm on Wednesday.

Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice says it means the nearest place farmers from Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon and Mayo could go to avail of these services would be Athlone.
