Irish Water is to replace the pipes on a water supply scheme on the Sligo/Leitrim border where householders have had to put up with poor quality for years.
About 30 homes in the Fivemilebourne, Calry area have had to do with a supply of water that was brown, murky and distasteful.
Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy says the real problem is old, four-inch, cast iron pipes that are leaking and dirty.
However, he now says Irish Water has made a commitment to replace the pipes, with tendering for the work to start soon.
But he told Ocean FM News it shouldn’t have had to take years of campaigning to provide such a basic service:
