A Donegal member of the oireachtas water charges committee says it’s a bit late to be seeking legal advice on how to charge for excessive water use.
As the water charges debacle rumbles on a report by the special committee which was due next Monday will now not be known until the middle of April.
It’s to allow the committee to seek legal advise on how the 2007 act could be amended to deal effectively with ‘excessive’ use and those who waste water.
A draft report shows that a kind of warning system of 6 months could be put in place before people are penalised for deliberatly wasting water.
But Independent TD Thomas Pringle who is the only TD in this region on the committee says it’s a bit late in the day to be taking this step:
