A diving boat with eight divers on board capsized this morning off the Sligo coast near Aughris Head north of Skreen village.

One person was airlifted to the A&E Department of Sligo University Hospital while another was treated at the scene.

Sligo Rescue Helicopter had to be called in to help while it was on the Blacksod Bay search for the missing crew members of Resuce 116 that crashed off the coast of Mayo on Tuesday.

Sligo Bay Lifeboat and the Killala Coastguard Lifeboat were called in to help while the Bundoran Lifeboat crew who were on a training exercise in the area, were also called.

The alarm was raised at around 11:25am this morning and thanks to the quick response of the rescue teams, everyone was recovered just after 12pm.

Station Officer at Malin Head Coastguard, Dennis Maloney, told OceanFM News what happened.

Ocean FM’s Claire Ronan also spoke with Willie Murphy of the Sligo Bay RNLI where he told Ocean FM that they were safely delivered to Aughris Pier.
