Sligo ratepayers getting notice of new valuations

Ratepayers throughout County Sligo are now getting notice of new valuations for their properties and businesses on which they will have to pay rates for the coming year.

The valuations are determined by the Valuation Office, not the county council.

There is a 40-day period during which ratepayers can appeal their new valuations.

And those with queries may attend walk-in clinics in County Hall next Monday and City Hall next Tuesday. There are also two help lines: 1890 531 431 or 01 817 1033.

In other counties, there has been confusion when ratepayers mistakenly thought their valuation figure was what they had to pay in rates.

But as Sligo County Council’s Head of Finance Marie Whelan explains, people need to multiply their valuation figure by 0.23 to get an idea of the rates they may be liable for.
