It’s been a busy week in the European Parliament with a major debate on Brexit this morning dominating headlines as report in our news earlier.
But this week as well the issue of supertrawlers was raised again at a European level.
It’s an issue of some concern in the North West especially to smaller fishermen who fear their livelihood is being affected by damage being done to some of their gear at sea by these huge trawlers.
Yesterday Irish Sinn Fein MEP Liadh Ni Riada said the current system to monitor super-trawlers in Irish waters is inadequate.
She again highlighted that these vessels need to be properly monitored and regulated:
