Almost half of people have experienced abuse of vulnerable adults



43% of people in Connaught and Ulster have experienced abuse of vulnerable adults.

However, this figure is actually lower than the national average of 48% and in Dublin those reporting or having experienced such abuse is 52%.

The research, commissioned from Red C by the National Safeguarding Committee, shows widespread public concern on the issue.

The report examines the physical, emotional, financial and psychological abuse of vulnerable adults, who are classed as those affected by disability, illness or mental health problems.

Patricia Rickard Clarke Chair of the National Safeguarding Committee says there’s a serious lack of clarity over where to report the abuse of vulnerable adults:
