A sod-turning ceremony to mark the final phase of the South West Donegal Regional Water Scheme will take place tomorrow, Friday.
The project began more than 25 years ago as a group scheme to bring water from Lough na Lughraman to Meenaneary, Meenacharvey, Straleel and Crove.
It expanded to become one of the largest group schemes in the county.
From 2006, through a partnership with Donegal County Council, it included more than nine other group schemes, resulting in what is now the South West Donegal Regional Water Scheme.
More than €14m has been invested in the scheme since it started.
Donegal Fianna Fail Deputy Pat ‘the Cope’ Gallagher says Friday’s sod-turning at 3pm in Owenchestna will be a milestone for the area.
