A Sligo/Leitrim TD is calling for funds to be made available to repair portions of a Sligo forest trail that was damaged in recent forest and gorse fires.
Fianna Fail’s Marc MacSharry is calling on the Minister responsible for the Office of Public Works to immediately make funds available to repair the extensive damage to the Sligo Camino trail.
The trail goes from Dromahair in Co. Leitrim to Coolaney in Co. Sligo, and is based on the world famous Spanish Camino de Santiago Trail, popular with hikers and cyclists.
Deputy MacSharry told Ocean FM News that, according to Coillte and other private operators, it could take up to 25 years to repair the Sligo trail.
