McLoughlin: ‘Kenny was a champion of the North West’

A Fine Gael Sligo/Leitrim TD has paid tribute to the outgoing Taoiseach, saying he showed a great interest in the promotion of the north west.

Enda Kenny stepped down as Taoiseach as of midnight last night with a new Fine Gael leader to be appointed by June 2nd.

Sligo based deputy Tony McLoughlin said Enda Kenny was a champion of issues in the North West such as those surrounding the upgrade of the N4 and further job creation in the region.

Speaking to Ocean Fm News, Deputy McLoughlin said the Taoiseach was also a leading figure in the country’s economic recovery.

The cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council has praised Enda Kenny for the way in which he dealt with the economic crisis that existed in the country when he became Taoiseach.

Fine Gael Councillor Terence Slowley says he turned around what was an unsustainable situation.

Former Fine Gael Senator in Sligo Imelda Henry says she feels Enda Kenny was a strong leader in difficult times.

She says he restored morale in a party that needed to be rebuilt when he took over as leader in 2004:
