People in Leitrim hope that the forestry issue in the county can be dealt with in the same way as fracking was defeated.
That’s according to Eddie Mitchell, who is the Environmental Chairperson of the IFA in Leitrim as well as a member of the Love Leitrim campaign.
He says this week’s defeat of fracking in the Dail with the passage of Sligo Leitrim TD Tony McLoughlin’s bill is a huge success.
He says some farmers in Leitrim now hope that the planting of forestery – also a great source of controversy at present – can be restricted by a similar strong and vocal campaign:
