A Sligo/Leitrim TD claims lenders have been given priority over people when it comes to dealing with the country’s mortgage crisis.
Speaking in the Dail on the Mortgage Arrears Resolution Bill, which is going through the Dail at present, Deputy MacSharry said that during the financial crisis they constantly heard about the so-called ‘systemic failure’ of the banks.
But he said he wanted to know when the ‘systemic importance’ of people would be realised.
Among the measures in the Bill, it aims to protect family homes and to establish a Mortgage Resolution Office.
But speaking in the Dail, Deputy MacSharry took particular exception to claims from the government that the legislation might be unconstitutional.
