90th anniversary of Countess Markievicz’s death marked at Lissadell House



The 90th anniversary of the death of Constance Countess Markievicz has been marked at her home at Lissadell House in Sligo.

A large crowd of guests attended the ceremony, which continued on until last evening.

Those who spoke at the commemoration included Maire Geoghegan Quinn, the former Minister and EU Commissioner, former Tanaiste Michael McDowell, and former Fianna Fail Minister, Eamon O’Cuiv.

Deputy O’Cuiv recited the graveside oration which his grandfather, Eamonn De Valera gave at the funeral of Countess Markievicz in 1927.
