Local RNLI warns North West bathers about rip currents following Bundoran incident

Bundoran RNLI is reminding anyone planning a trip to the coast this summer to be mindful of the potential dangers the sea poses.

Particularly, they are warning beach users about the hazardous rip currents that can quickly sweep bathers out to sea.

The advice comes following an incident which took place at Tullan Strand in Bundoran yesterday morning.

Nine footballers, who were using the water as part of a cool-down session, were swept to sea after being caught in a rip current.

The men were rescued after a number of surfers who had been on shore, came to their assistance. While the Sligo based Rescue 118 helicopter and the Bundoran RNLI lifeboat also attended the scene.

Shane Smyth, Bundoran RNLI Press Officer has this advice for anyone using the region’s beaches this summer.
