The funerals take place today of the three women from South Donegal who tragically lost their lives as a result of a traffic accident in County Louth.
All three funerals are in Bruckless, two this morning and one this afternoon.
The three women died as a result of a horrific accident near Aclint Bride, on a dangerous stretch of the N2 north of Ardee, as they returned home from a holiday in Turkey.
Those who died included 69-year old Margaret McGonigle, of Castlereagh, Bruckless, and her daughter, 39-year old Mairead Mundy, of Ballyloughan, Bruckless.
Their remains will be removed this morning to the Church of Saint Joseph and Saint Conal, Bruckless, for funeral Mass at 11am.
Afterwards, they will both be buried in the adjoining cemetery.
This afternoon, the remains of their friend, 37-year old Racheal Battles, also of Ballyloughan, who was travelling with them when the accident occurred, will be removed to the same church for funeral Mass at 2:30pm, with burial afterwards in the same cemetery.
Racheal was a native of Ardara, Co Donegal, while Margaret McGonigle was a member of a well-known Sligo Town family, the McKennas, from St Brigid’s Place.
For South Donegal, and particularly for the close-net community of Bruckless, today will be one of heart-breaking sadness, as it bids farewell to three of its loved ones in the most tragic of circumstances.
