Sligo County Council to address possibility of improving dangerous Ballymote junction

Sligo County Council is to investigate whether it is possible to undertake works at a dangerous junction in Ballymote.

The junction, close to Henry’s Filling Station in the town, is designed in such a way that motorists approaching from Templehouse, often take up a position on the right hand side of the road to take the sharp bend on to the Sligo road.

The issue was highlighted by local Fine Gael Councillor Dara Mulvey at this week’s meeting of the Ballymote/Tubbercurry Municipal District.

He said the junction is particularly hazardous at this time of the year with people using the recreational facilities on the Sligo road such as Corran Park and the nearby playground.

Councillor Mulvey said the council has assured him it will look into improving the road, but said this may prove difficult due to the design of the junction.
