Number on trolleys in Letterkenny highest in over ten years



There number of patients waiting on trolleys at Letterkenny University Hospital so far this year is the highest in over 10 years.

A new report revealed today by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show that there were over 2800 people waiting on trolleys in the Emergency Department and on wards at LUH between January and July of this year.

Last year the figure was just quarter of that with just over 700 patients waiting.

The report shows that so far 2017 has been a record year for overcrowding at hospitals with a record almost 58,000 patients waiting lengthy periods on trolleys.

Sligo however saw a decrease in the numbers on trolleys down to almost 1300 from over 1600 last year.

Cavan and Mayo hospitals also saw decreases while Galway University Hospital had a increase and Portiuncla Hospital in Ballinasloe’s trolley figures increased from just 255 last year to 1248 this year.
