There will be a Sligo interest in this weekend’s AFL International Cup final in Melbourne.
Sligo native Rachel Fox will be part of the Alfa Irish Banshees team, who will face Canada in the final of the tournament on Saturday.
Fox was part of the Irish team that beat Great Britain in this week’s semi-finals, and have also beaten USA Freedom, the European Crusaders and Papua New Guinea Flames at the tournament, which is contested by AFL national teams from outside Australia.
The Grand Final will take place in the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne on Saturday afternoon prior to the Carlton v Hawthorn men’s AFL game.
Rachel’s grandparents and extended family still live in Sligo.
