Post masters to meet Minister Naughten on Thursday



A regional representative of the Irish Postmasters Union is calling on the government and Communications Minister Denis Naughten to become involved in discussions over the future of the country’s post office network.

Padraig McNamara, western representative of the IPU, was speaking to Ocean FM News following a national meeting of IPU members in Athlone at the weekend.

In the north west, there remains concern about the future of two post offices, Blacklion in Cavan, which has already closed, and Ballygawley in County Sligo, where the post master passed away some time ago but which remains open.

This Thursday, the IPU is to meet with Minister Naughten to discuss the ongoing uncertainty over the post office network.

Mr McNarmara says the time for action on the minister’s part is long overdue:
