Basic Payment Scheme money will be ‘timely boost for farmers’

The Department of Agriculture has announced the start of the 70% advance of the Basic Payment Scheme.

The advance of the BPS, formerly the Disadvantaged Area Scheme, is worth €700m and is being issued to some 111,000 farmers.

IFA Deputy President Richard Kennedy is welcoming the confirmation.

He says it’s very important for cashflow on farms and will provide a timely boost for farmers in what has been a very difficult year.

Richard Kennedy said it is very important to get payments to the remaining farmers as soon as possible.
