The EPA has issued a warning to Sligo County Council to carry out septic tank inspections before the end of the year.
A new report reveals that Sligo didn’t carry out any inspections at all in 2016 due to ‘resourcing issues’.
The report also shows that two thirds of septic tanks in county Leitrim failed the inspections while nearly half failed in Donegal.
The EPA says it’s mainly because people are not desludging their tanks.
