Kilcar’s Mark McHugh has been named the player of the year for this season’s Donegal Senior Championship
The All-Star footballer will be presented with the 2017 Séamus Mac Géidigh Award at the annual Donegal GAA County Banquet and Awards night on Saturday in Letterkenny’s Mount Errigal Hotel.
McHugh will be honoured for his consistently high performances for Kilcar this season, as they ended a 24-year wait to lift the Dr Maguire Cup.
He was named man of the match in their county final defeat of Naomh Conaill.
12 Donegal sports reporters, including Ocean FM’s Pauric Byrne, made up the selection committee for the award, under the stewardship of Damien Ó Dónaill from RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.
The award was inaugurated last year, and commemorates the much-respected Raidió na Gaeltachta broadcaster Séamus Mac Géidigh, who passed away suddenly in July 2016.
Glenswilly’s Michael Murphy was the first winner of the award.
