A Ballymote, Co Sligo native has been appointed diocesan administrator of the catholic Diocese of Achonry, which includes part of Sligo.
He’s Father Dermot Meehan, parish priest of Swinford.
The appointment follows the installation last Sunday of the former bishop of Achonry, Brendan Kelly, as the new bishop of Galway
In his new role, Fr Meehan will have responsibility for the day-to-day running of the diocese.
He will continue in his role as parish priest of Swinford.
