Motorists on N16 coming into Sligo can expect delays due to major roadworks

Motorists coming into Sligo town on the N16 Manorhamilton road can expect delays during morning and evening peak times for the next four or five weeks.

It’s because of road works on Ash Lane, which runs by the main entrance to IT Sligo.

Traffic coming from Manorhamilton will be diverted onto Clarion Road and Ballytivnan Road, past St John’s Community Hospital, emerging onto Ash Lane at the Duck Street roundabout.

It means traffic will be unable to go in the direction from Ballinode towards Feehily’s Funeral Home.

However, traffic on Ash Lane travelling in the opposite direction — from Feehily’s Funeral Home toward Ballinode — will not be affected by the works, for the time being.

It’s this route that Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and his ministers will most likely be taking when they come down the N4 from Dublin for Fridays’ cabinet meeting in IT Sligo.

Also, today water main installation works are expected to start on the N16 near the Abbvie plant, just outside Sligo.

Michael Conway, executive engineer with the roads design section of Sligo County Council, has been telling Ocean FM News about the work that’s being done on Ash Lane:
