New Rovers signings hopeful of featuring in northwest derby



Sligo Rovers will again be without defender Regan Donelon and attacker Raff Cretaro for this evening’s northwest derby against Derry City.

Both players miss out through injury, while youngster John Mahon is also sidelined until April.

Rovers are trying to get clearance for new signings Patrick McClean, Calum Waters and Mitchell Beeney through in time for them to feature in tonight’s game.

McClean admits he would be excited to come up against his hometown club, having missed out on it with Waterford last week…

Beeney will provide competition to Micháel Schlingermann for the number one spot, and admits he is aiming to play as much as possible during his loan term at the Showgrounds…

Rovers boss Gerard Lyttle is hoping that the crowd can play their part in tonight’s game against Derry, and also Monday’s home game against the reigning champions Cork City…

Kick-off tonight is at 7.45pm and the game will be live on Ocean FM in association with JBG Security, with Rovers legend Alan Keane joining our commentary team.

Meanwhile, Finn Harps are set to be without captain Ciaran Coll for tonight’s League of Ireland First Division opener.

The experienced defender is injured, while midfielder Gareth Harkin is also a doubt.

Harps begin life back outside the top-flight when a trip to United Park to face Drogheda United – the team that finished below them in the Premier Division last season.

Elsewhere in the First Division tonight, Cabinteely host Wexford, promotion favourites Galway United are home to Athlone Town, and UCD welcome Owen Heary’s Shelbourne to the UCD Bowl.

All those games are at 7.45pm.
