A local nature expert has said that hefty fines should be handed out to people who are caught dumping in the Garavogue River.
Glass and plastic bottles and empty tins can regularly been seen when the tide is low.
And Michael Bell who runs Nature Learn in Ballymote says from what he could see yesterday when he was in town, the amount of rubbish in the river is getting worse.
He is now calling on Sligo County Council to hand out bigger fines to anyone who is caught dumping rubbish:
