A Sligo-based medical negligence lawyer says he hopes the State will engage more in mediation when it comes to claims against it.
Roger Murray, of Callan Tansey Solicitors, was speaking after a €5m High Court approved settlement arising from the circumstances of the birth of a boy nine years ago at Sligo General Hospital.
The settlement for Kyle Carpenter, from Coolaney, who has cerebral palsy, was made without an admission of liability.
Mr Murray says mediation is how cases should be dealt with, especially in complex, emotional cases or cases involving children.
