Donegal is among 19 counties where a new State-subsidised evening and nighttime bus service is to be introduced.
It will be in Glencolmcille/Donegal Town, Burtonport, and Fanad and Carrigans in the Letterkenny area.
The scheme has been announced by Transport Minister Shane Ross on a six-month trial basis from June until December.
In County Sligo, there have been four nighttime services since 2003, in the Calry and West Sligo areas.
The new trial scheme has been put in place following applications from 12 of the country’s 17 Local Link transport offices.
It comes ahead of the expected introduction of strict new drink driving laws.
But Sligo Independent Alliance Councillor Marie Casserly says it’s about more than bringing people to pubs.
She says she will now be working with the National Transport Authority and Local Link to get the service extended in Sligo and also to Leitrim.
