People on HAP scheme struggling to find accommodation



A Sligo/Leitrim TD has told the Dail that people in the Northwest in receipt of the Housing Assistance Payment are struggling to find accommodation.

The scheme was introduced in 2015 in response to the escalating housing crisis and provides temporary accommodation for homeless families in privately provided rental properties.

The average monthly rent for a one bed in Sligo Town is over €500 while the Government’s HAP payment is €350.
