Gardai in Sligo Leitrim clocked a motorist travelling almost twice the speed limit in a 60km zone on the N4 recently.
A Roads Policing unit in the division stopped the motorist travelling at a speed of 110km/h in a 60km/h zone.
Gardai say the weather at the time was extremely wet with torrential showers.
A Fixed Charge Penalty Notice was issued which comes with 3 penalty points and an €80 fine.
Gardai are reminding drivers that stopping distances increase dramatically in wet conditions and they are urging motorists to slow down in such conditions.
