A Leitrim councillor says new data protection regulations are causing difficulties and delays for politicians who want to make representations on behalf of people in their areas.
Fine Gael Councillor Sean McDermott says the council now has to get notification showing a person has given permission for a councillor to represent them or make a case on their behalf.
And he says it’s not clear if that will suffice in cases where a councillor might be dealing with a number of issues, or with different council sections, for the same person.
