Sligo suffered a rare home defeat in Division 2B of the All-Ireland league on Saturday at Hamilton Park in Strandhill when they were beaten by league leaders Barnhall from Maynooth 22-11.
The result ensures that Barnhall win Division 2B.
Sligo enjoyed the majority of territorial possession over the 80 minutes, but Barnhall’s knowhow in defence and on the counter were key factors in their victory by double scores.
The visitors led 8-6 at half-time and moved 22-6 ahead in the second half. But Sligo were always creating opportunities – and they were finally rewarded in the closing stages when Kuba crossed for a try.
But Barnhall held on to win and extend their lead at the top of Division 2B.
Sligo need one more win from their remaining two league games against Dungannon (away) and Sunday’s Well (home) to be sure of a promotion semi-final place. Both games will be live on Ocean FM on April 6th and April 13th respectively.
