Sligo’s Luke Towey set for AFL trial



Sligo gaelic footballer Luke Towey is the latest player to head to Australia for an AFL trial in Melbourne.

The St Molaise Gaels clubman featured for Sligo in the national league. He is one of four Irish players to be selected for a two-week trial in Australia next month. Armagh’s Ross McQuillan, Kildare’s Mark Barrett and Clare’s Sean O’Donoghue are the other players to have been chosen.

There are currently 14 Irish players on the books of AFL clubs – including  another sligoman – Red Óg Murphy from Curry – who signed a new rookie contract with North Melbourne towards the end of last year.
