A member of a second Joint Policing Committee in the north west has voiced disappointment over the lack of consultation about the proposed new operating plan for An Garda Siochana.
Leitrim County Councillor Mary Bohan says the joint policing committees — which include local authority officials, councillors and the community and voluntary sectors — were set up with the expectation of consultation and that they would have some input into future planning for their areas.
It’s expected Garda Commissioner Drew Harris’s plan will come under close scrutiny when local councillors throughout the north west resume their meetings from next week after the summer holidays.
Last week, the chairman of the Donegal Joint Policing Committee said it had not been consulted on the proposed new Garda policing model.
And Cllr Bohan says what transpired after the announcement of previous plans does not inspire confidence when it comes to the actual situation on the ground in rural areas.
