Retail workers across Donegal are to see a newly agreed pay increase of 2.5%-to 8.5%, which will be backdated from April of this year.
Mandate Trade Union recently secured a new pay deal for the members of Kavanagh Group Supervalu Chain which has 8 stores across Mayo and Donegal.
The annual increase would see a full time worker to be paid an extra €1,300 while other members of staff could see an increase of €2,000 a year.
Ciaran Campbell who is the Divisional Organiser for Mandate’s North and West Division claims that with Brexit on the horizon, unions and businesses are going to be operating in unknown territory and a pay increase like this is only a working progress.
Ciaran hopes that deals like this can continue to be made across the country and hopes to advise retail workers that it benefits to be in a union
