A South Sligo councillor is calling for a former government office building in Tubbercurry to be bought for use as a new Garda station in the town.
The 8,000 square foot two-storey building is located beside the current Garda station in Tubbercurry.
The building had been occupied for a number of years by staff working for the Department of Gaeltacht and Rural Affairs.
The Office of Public Works has responsibility for Garda buildings.
Now, local Fine Gael Councillor Martin Connolly is to ask Sligo County Council to call on Kevin Boxer Moran, the Minister in charge of the OPW, to encourage his department to buy the building for use as a Garda station.
