It’s expected that a major housing and roads improvement project will be completed in the Connolly Park estate in Tubbercurry in the next twelve months.
Councillors from the Ballymote/Tubbercurry/West Sligo area welcomed news of the proposed work at their meeting yesterday afternoon .
Independent Councillor Michael Clarke said the situation in Connolly Park had been ‘a long-running saga’ while Fianna Fail Councillor Paul Taylor said there had been a number of ‘problem houses’ not owned by the council in the estate.
Cllr Taylor added that there were no windows in some derelict houses and children were able to get into the buildings.
Fine Gael Councillor Martin Connolly recalled how the late Cllr Margatet Gormley had regularly called for such improvements in Connolly Park during her time on the council.
