Airbnb is inviting community members in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal to apply for its new microgrant funding programme.
The funding is to be made available to grassroot, cultural and community-led initiatives in the North West.
Áitiúil, which is a pilot scheme designed by Airbnb, is inviting members from local cultural and community led projects to apply for there new funding initiative.
Grants of up €5,000 will be awarded to local grassroots projects with no requirement to be an Airbnb host or guest to apply.
With the first round of funding due to take place in the first quarter of this year, airbnb will shortlist applications every three months which will be reviewed by the new community board.
The grants will be awarded to a diverse range of projects ranging from:
- Promoting sustainability of the natural environment
- Celebrating and raising awareness of places of cultural and historical significance
- Entrepreneurship in the tourism and travel industry and
- Preserving or celebrating local festivals.
In a statement, Jean Hoey, Public policy lead for Airbnb Ireland says they want to support the local community in the North West in their mission to preserving the culture, sustaining the environment and celebrating Irish heritage.
