Sligo Leitrim TD Frank Feighan has withdrawn from the race to be the next Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Eireann.
Feighan had earlier indicated that he was seeking nominations for the position.
There is also speculation linking Fianna Fáil’s Seán Ó Feargháil and Fine Gael TD Heather Humphreys.
Meanwhile, Independent TD Denis Naughten’s confirmed he is putting his name forward for the role of Ceann Comhairle.
In a statement he says he’s looking for the job because of public frustration with accountability.
The Roscommon Galway TD says getting straight answers to straight questions is becoming more difficult in Dáil Éireann and it would be an honour to be elected to the post.
Nominations for the role of Ceann Comhairle must be submitted to the Clerk of the Dáil’s office by 6pm this evening.
